Wyalkatchem District High School
Learning beyond the classroom-achieving excellence and respect for self, others and the environment.
Wyalkatchem District High School is situated in the small town 191kms north east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt. The school's students come from within the local community and from the surrounding towns of Koorda, Trayning and Kununoppin. The community has traditionally been supportive of its school, with an active School Council and P&C.
The teaching staff is a mixture of very experienced teachers and teachers commencing their careers. The stability over the last few years has provided opportunities for the school to create several long-term programs and projects.
In addition there are non-teaching staff members, including Education Assistants who work with children with Special Needs.
The school is central to the community and is the interest of all families. Our teachers form positive relationships with both parents and students that extend beyond the school through involvement in community sport and other social activities. Students transition easily from Primary school to Secondary as they are exposed to many facets of secondary school whilst still in their primary years. Pastoral care is provided to students in a personalised and inclusive manner that ensures all students enjoy their learning and are inspired and challenged by the curriculum. The school takes advantage of its unique situation in being able to employ very flexible approaches to ensure that the specific needs of every student have been met.
Wyalkatchem District High School is a place where all students, teachers, assistants and volunteers work together positively and enthusiastically. The school emphasises the development of personal values indicative of people who display strong active citizenship. Students are provided with and are supported to embrace leadership opportunities that make a positive difference to their lives and many others around them. Students felt the personal satisfaction that one derives from giving their best and serving others.
We have quality teachers who approach their work with great care and support for every individual child. The school has strong community support shown through high participation and attendance at school events and through the advice they provide on the future development of the school. The school has an excellent undercover area complete with inbuilt sound system. A grassed oval, administrative block and remodelled Home Economics and Design and Technology rooms are also at the school. The Pre-Primary Centre is on site and there is well equipped computer and science labs and a library.
